Just looking at what I have done since setting up in 2004, I have acted in transactions and potential disputes both large, medium and small. Indeed, my small size and charging structure mean that I can provide a personalised, City of London quality service – but at a fraction of the price. Knowing others like me means that I can call on extra resource where needed – both in the areas of IT law and transactions, and in other disciplines as well.
The Law Office has been involved in many transactions, from assisting start-ups through to acting for Tier 1 international companies. I am rated as a “Leader in my Field” by Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, and my dedication to using technology wherever possible means that I can provide a top-quality service. Just a few examples include:
- Acting for a major Government Department in procuring a major technology refresh, and subsequently advising in connection with the dispute concerning extensive delay by the supplier and changes to spec
- Acting for an international outsourcing services provider in re-negotiating the terms of a multi-million pound outsourcing in a situation where the original contract had been underbid and was now loss-making
- Acting for a Tier 1 Indian services provider in advising on a potential dispute regarding service interruption
The training consultancy has, for example, provided risk management training services for a Tier 1 UK services provider, helping project managers and commercial managers understand and deal with key legal and commercial risks when negotiating (or re-negotiating) contracts (or change notes). Training is also provided to in-house legal departments, keeping them abreast of legal developments that affect the way IT contracts should be drafted.
Dispute resolution services include providing mediation services (I am a registered CEDR mediator). My experience in this area extends to some 24 mediations as mediator – as well as having experience of representing parties at mediations. While I have worked particularly in the IT sector, I have also worked in other sectors, such as construction and property. I was in March 2007 elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and have already been asked to act as an arbitrator in an international outsourcing dispute. I am also capable of providing expert determination services, or early neutral evaluations of cases to assist parties in settling their dispute.
